How to Apply:

These scholarships require that you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit the RBC Application for Financial Assistance. Please review the Endowment Scholarship List and select the scholarship(s) for which you are eligible. Attach a separate essay to the RBC Application for Financial Assistance. Your essay should be no more than two paragraphs and should reflect your educational goals and how the scholarship would assist you in attaining those goals. Submit the completed application to the Financial Aid Office. Scholarship recipients will be notified via a financial aid award letter.

Please note that before any scholarship award is finalized, the recipient is required to write a formal letter of thanks addressed to the donor. The letter should be sent to the Financial Aid Office, and we will forward letters to the scholarship donor. Your personal note of thanks is more than good manners, it assures the donor that his or her investment in Richard Bland College – and in you – is meaningful and appreciated.

"Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others." Cicero

Tips for your letter of thanks:

    • Write your letter by hand or type it. Be legible and neat!
    • Include the date, a proper closing (such as "sincerely") and your handwritten
       signature
    • Use the scholarship name in the body of the letter
    • Use the proper salutation (e.g.: Dear Mr. or Mrs, Dr. etc. (the Scholarship Donor)
    • Express your gratitude for the scholarship
    • You may want to include information about yourself such as your major, your
campus activities, your goals, and why you selected Richard Bland College
    • Tell the donor how the scholarship will help you reach your goals
    • Be clear and concise
    • Check your grammar, punctuation, and spelling – especially the scholarship
name, and remember that "Spell Check" doesn't catch everything!
