Recommendations for students wishing to transfer to The College of William and Mary As of Fall 2012

1. Complete the requirements for the RBC Associate in Arts or Associate in Science with at least a 3.25 GPA (exclusive of physical education). It is best to have a 3.25 or better at the time of application. (The Guaranteed Admissions Agreement applies to RBC graduates with at least 45 credits earned at RBC.)

2. W&M accepts transfer students for the fall and spring semester. Be prepared to submit mid-term grades for the current term of enrollment. The application fee is waived.

3. Enroll in the following courses in order to satisfy W&M's additional General Education Requirements (GERs). With the associate degree, only GERs 4B, 6 and 7 are needed. (These are not required for admission, but completing them at RBC will mean you don't have to take them at W&M.)

GER4B: HISTORY/CULTURE OUTSIDE THE EUROPEAN TRADITION:

• Religion 219 (History and Religion of Israel)

GER 6:CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS (2 credits)

ONE of the following:

    • Art 101 or 102 (Basic Design I or II)
    • Theatre 115 (An Introduction to Acting)
    • Theatre 201 (Theatre: A Contemporary and Historical Introduction)
    • Music 132/133 (Chorus)
    • Music 134/135 (Wind Ensemble)
    • Speech 101 (Public Speaking)

Documentation of extensive private study in dance or music or sufficient study of art or music during high school may satisfy this requirement.

GER 7: PHILOSOPHICAL RELIGIOUS & SOCIAL THOUGHT

    • Philosophy 101 (Introduction to Philosophy) or
    • Philosophy 203 (Introduction to Ethics)

4. W&M's foreign language requirement can be satisfied several ways. It is highly advisable to complete your language requirement prior to transferring. Note that correct placement is critical when continuing any language so that the courses you take will count toward your degree.

If you have passed high-school courses through the 4th level in a single foreign language. If you continue the same language at RBC, the lowest course that will transfer to W&M is 202.

If you have taken three years of a language in high school, consult foreign language faculty to determine which language course you should take at RBC.

If you have taken two years of a language in high school, no course below 102 will transfer to W&M.

Consult the W&M catalog for other ways to satisfy this requirement.

5. The following courses are unlikely to transfer:

    • Biology 111 (Medical Terminology)
    • Business 104 (Introduction to Business)
    • All business courses intended for DSCR students
    • CSCI 103 (Keyboarding)
    • Educational Travel 299
    • Math 101 (College Algebra)
    • Math 105-106 (Fundamental Concepts of Mathematics)
    • Physical Education 102 (Basketball)
    • Physical Education 106 (Horseback Riding)
    • Psychology 101 (Psychology of Effective Learning)
    • Psychology 291 (Psychology of Adjustment)

Further, 299 courses will be individually evaluated. Save the syllabus.

6. Students intending to major in Business Administration should have completed Business 201 and 202 (Accounting I and II), Economics 201 and 202 (Macro and Micro), and Math 201 (Calculus) or 207 (Business Calculus) and Math 217 (Introductory Statistics).

7. Check the W&M transfer guide for regulations applicable to transfers from RBC to W&M and to determine transferability of RBC courses. These pages will have the most accurate and up to date information.

8. Meet with Tyler Hart, Interim Director of Academic and Institutional Effectiveness, to inform him of your intention to seek admission to William and Mary and to review your program of study with him.
