Richard Bland College Partners With Dominion Energy to Revitalize Nature Trail

More than 135 Richard Bland College students, along with faculty members, staff, and volunteers from Dominion Energy, worked to renovate the on-campus Nature Trail that is part of the Virginia Parks System.

The Nature Trail renovation included graveling the mile-long trail, building a new footbridge, stairs and retaining wall. A refurbished entrance was also spruced up with mulch, shrubs, bee boxes, native annual plants, and a new welcome sign.

Richard Bland College was able to complete the project using a $10,000 grant from Dominion Energy.

“Dominion Energy likes to energize communities by engaging our employees and community members in volunteer projects that improve the environment and provide places to enjoy,” said Tara J. Richardson, Senior Community Affairs Representative at Dominion Energy. “Our company is delighted to partner with Richard Bland College on this sustainable project.”

The grant proposal was submitted by Dr. Eric Miller, Assistant Professor of Biology at RBC.

“Richard Bland College thanks Dominion Energy for the donation and its invaluable gift of volunteers who worked tirelessly to beautify the RBC campus trail,” said Dr. Tyler Hart, Chief Development Officer at RBC. “A refurbished Nature Trail enables the College community and citizens from the region to enjoy nature while walking.”
