Brenda Hicks
Bio:
Brenda is the Director of Housing Counseling & Education at Housing Opportunities Made Equal of Virginia. It is a non-profit with the mission of equal access to housing for all. She is responsible for the contract management, administrative oversight and compliance of the comprehensive housing counseling and education programs including, Homeownership, Foreclosure Prevention, Reverse Mortgage, Rental Mobility and Financial Literacy. Brenda has a Master’s in Public Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Medical Record Administration from the Medical College of Virginia. Overall, she has 30 plus years of leadership experience, extensive experience in program evaluation and compliance with government programs and contracts. She is a licensed Mortgage Loan Originator, Certified HUD HOME Program Specialist in Regulations, and HUD Certified Housing Counselor.
Prior to working in the housing industry, Brenda spent 18 years in the health care industry as a Registered Health Information Administrator for in-patient general hospitals and outpatient behavioral health facilities. She also taught part time at a private for-profit college. Brenda currently is on the Board of Health Brigade who provides quality healthcare to those least served. She currently is the Board secretary and on the quality assurance committee and previously served on the governance committee. Brenda also is an active member and diaconate leader at the First Baptist Church of South Richmond.
