Grants are need-based aid and do not have to be repaid. To apply for grants, a FAFSA must be filed. It is recommended that the FAFSA be filed by March 1st to receive priority consideration for limited funds and timely award packages.

Pell Grant
This grant is awarded by the U.S. Department of Education to students determined to have significant financial need. The amount of the Pell grant award depends on the student’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and enrollment status and Federal allocations and funding.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
FSEOG is gift aid that is awarded to students with the greatest financial need as evidenced by the FAFSA results. Richard Bland College receives a small allocation of FSEOG funds from the U.S. Department of Education each year.

Virginia Commonwealth Grant (CSG)
This state-funded grant provides assistance to undergraduate Virginia residents who demonstrate financial need as a result of filing a FAFSA. The award amount is determined each year based on fund availability.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Virginia resident
- Must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) in a degree seeking program
- Has financial need
Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Grant (VGAP)
This state-funded grant provides assistance to entering freshmen and returning undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need as a result of filing a FAFSA. The award amount is determined each year based on fund availability.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Full-time enrollment in a degree-seeking program
- Virginia resident
- Dependent student (initial year only).
- Graduate of a Virginia high school with at least a 2.5 GPA
- Has financial need
