Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced that DroneUp, LLC, a leading drone flight services innovator and aviation technology provider, will invest a total of $27.2 million to expand its headquarters in the City of Virginia Beach and establish a testing, training, and R&D center at Richard Bland College in Dinwiddie County. Virginia successfully competed with Arizona, New York, North Carolina, and Texas for the projects, which will create 655 total new jobs.

Dr. Kimberly Boyd, who has two decades of academic and administrative experience in higher education at prominent institutions throughout the Commonwealth, has been named Vice President at Richard Bland College of William & Mary. The announcement was made by Dr. Debbie L. Sydow, President of RBC. Dr. Boyd joined RBC in January 2022 as the College’s Chief Research and Innovation Officer, and she will retain responsibility for that area in addition to oversight of academics and student success.

Richard Bland College of William & Mary is pleased to recognize more than 225 students who have earned distinction on the President’s and Dean’s List for the 2021 spring semester. One hundred and seventeen students earned a 3.8 grade point average (GPA) and above for placement on the President’s List. An additional 119 students rated Dean’s List status with a 3.25 to 3.79 GPA. All students are required to carry a minimum of 12 credit hours to earn academic distinction.

After more than a year of COVID-19 related restrictions, this fall the Richard Bland College campus will look and feel familiar to employees and students when normal campus operations resume. Justice Cleo E. Powell, who has served on the Supreme Court of Virginia since 2011, will deliver the keynote address at Richard Bland College of William & Mary’s 58th Commencement Ceremony on May 20, 2021. Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, this year’s ceremony will be held virtually.
