Celebrating Black History! The Influence of Black Music & The Hip Hop Genres on Black Cultural Identify and Self-Image
20
@ SSHE Auditorium
This program will include a moderator and a panel of four students who will lead discussions on the ways in which the Black/Hip Hop music community has influenced the cultural image and perceptions of African-Americans over the past two decades. Specifically, conversations regarding mainstream musicians and Hip-Hop lyricists’ creative contributions of Alternative, Hardcore, Latin, Gangsta, Freestyle, and other forms of rap will be the focus. Panel members and the audience will bring the musicians and artists’ contributions to the center of a conversation on Black History. This unique angle to understanding this aspect of the American ethos allows participants to critically think through the ways in which major artists used their talents to shape the individual and collective identity and consciousness of the Black Culture. Engage RBC points available.
