Employees covered under the Group Life Insurance Program, may purchase additional coverage for themselves through the Optional Group Life Insurance Program. If an employee elects optional group life insurance coverage, they also may cover a spouse and dependent children. Retirement Plans
-
Classified staff participate in the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) as a condition of employment. Instructional Faculty and Administrators are also required to participate in a retirement plan as a condition of employment but have a choice between VRS and the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). Instructional Faculty and Administrators must make the retirement election within the first 60 calendar days of eligible employment. Instructional Faculty and Administrators who do not elect the ORP within the initial 60-day election period become members of the Virginia Retirement System.
