Canvas is a learning management system that was implemented at RBC in the Summer of 2015. Professors use Canvas to enhance their face-to-face courses and to teach courses completely online.

Canvas FAQs

  • What will I need to log in?

    • In order to log in, you will first need to register for Statesman Account Management (SAM). When first clicking on the Canvas link, you will be directed to the SAM login screen. Please type in your RBC login credentials given to you at Registration Day, and complete the SAM registration process. If you have already registered for SAM, please type in your log in credentials and click Login. You will then be redirected to your Canvas homepage.

  • I don't know my RBC Student Email ID. How can I find out what it is?

    • You can find out your Student Email ID by accessing Banner web, clicking on the Personal Information link or on the Personal Information Tab listed, and then clicking on View Email Addresses.

  • Who do I contact if I cannot log in?

  • Can I change my password?

    • Yes. You can change your password using the SAM system.  In order to do so, log in to your SAM account. Once you are logged in your will see the option to change your password. Click Change Now to begin the password reset process. Remember that passwords must be at least 10 characters long and have at least: one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number and one symbol.  Do not use a password that will identify you, i.e. your name, your parents name, your pet’s name or your favorite sport, etc. Note: Whenever you change your password on SAM, it will change your password for Canvas login, Statesmen Mail, RBC Library Catalog, rbc-air, and RBC computer log in.

  • I changed my password and I cannot log back in. What do I do?

    • You will need to click Unlock/Reset Your Password on the SAM login page. You will then be asked a series of security questions to reset your password. If you are still having issues logging in after resetting your password, please contact STAC@rbc.edu or call (804) 862-6401.

  • I am using Microsoft Internet Explorer but I am having issues using it with Canvas. What should I do?

    • Please try using another web browser. We recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox web browsers. If you are still having issues once changing your browser, please make sure that you are using the most recent version of that web browser.

  • I am using Canvas, but I am having technical issues. What should I do?

    • If you are having technical problems using Canvas and are using a recommended web browser, please use the Help option. After clicking on the Help option, please click on your preferred Help option, i.e., Report a Problem, Chat with Canvas Support, Canvas Support Hotline, etc..
