Security Awareness

According to SANS, one of the most important things to understand about cyber security awareness is your desirability as a target. Yes, cyber criminals focus on banks and governments and industries, but they also zero in on individuals. You are the cyber thief’s primary target. A cybercriminal can deploy complex malware and hacking techniques, but often the most effective attack pathway is also the simplest – go after the person!!

ALERTS:

Microsoft Phone Scam

If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be Microsoft from then it is more than likely a scam.  Do not give them any information or follow anything they ask you to do.  Please report this to stac@rbc.edu.

For more information on Microsoft Phone Scams, please see this website: http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx.

Email and Phone Scams

Be wary of any emails (or scam phone calls) related to the Heartbleed bug. Do not click links in these emails. Delete the emails quickly. If you want to change a password to your Facebook or bank or other site, wait until that site announces the site is patched. Do not use an email link, go directly to that site.

Please check this site for more information on the Heartbleed bug: http://blogs.mcafee.com/consumer/what-is-heartbleed.
